FunFlight is a not for profit volunteer organisation that offers children and teenagers that are touched by a life changing illness a day of ‘aeronaut
Any serious illness is devastating, but when it effects youth, it is especially heart-wrenching
FunFlight works closely with charities such as the Starlight Children's Foundation, CanTeen and Angel Flight and provides these kids a joy flight and an afternoon of fun at a local airport.
Most of the pilots participating in these events are prominent businessmen who freely give their time and aircrafts to those stricken with serious illness such as cancer. It is an opportunity for these young people and their families to relax, to get away from the daily thoughts about their illnesses, providing some mental and physical relief. FunFlight is just for fun!
FunFlight was conceived by Melbourne business man Michel Verheem (photo) as part of the Landmark Education ‘Self Expression and Leadership Program'. All participants to this program are asked to organise an event that impacts on their local community. FunFlight started out small, with the idea to organise a day out for perhaps 10-15 CanTeen members.
On hearing about the initiative, the aviation charity Angelflight's founder Bill Bristow and the Peninsula Aero Club immediately offered their organisation's support and the event grew like a mushroom.
The participants are children from the ages of 4 to 22 and their families who have serious illnesses. The organisations CanTeen http://www.cant
