FunFlight is a not-for-profit volunteer organisation that offers children and teenagers touched by adversity or a life changing illness, a day of aviation related entertainment together with their families.
FunFlight was conceived by Melbourne businessman Michèl Verheem (photo). The original idea was to only take 10-15 kids up for a joyflight, but on hearing about the initiative, founding members Martin Robson and Richard Ogilvie from the Peninsula Aero Club and Bill Bristow, founder of aviation charity, Angel Flight, immediately offered their support, and the first event grew like a mushroom.
A very substantial donation from the estate of Paul Burgess allowed FunFlight to shift gear and become a registered charity that now organises national events - and has international aspirations. (Read more about Paul here).
FunFlight participants are children touched by a serious illness or adversity, together with their families. The pilots are all volunteers drawn from around the country who provide both their aircraft and time, free of charge.
FunFlight works closely with charities such as Variety, HeartKids Australia, Camp Quality, the Salvation Army and the Starlight Children's Foundation.
