FUNFLIGHT TAKES TO THE SKIES FOR KIDS
November 9, 2008

FunFlight, Australia's premier aviation charity organisation, will take more than 1100 children touched by adversity or serious illness and their families to the skies across Australia this Sunday, 9 November 2008.

Designed to bring joy and a day of fun to Australia's children challenged by serious illness or adversity, the now annual FunFlight event, provides an opportunity for pilots, children and volunteers to enjoy the excitement of flying.

With the support of aero clubs and volunteer pilots in locations across Australia including Rockhampton, Sydney, Melbourne, Launceston and Perth, and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in Amberley, FunFlight will take children on a joy flight allowing them an escape from the struggle of everyday life.

Thanks to the contribution of licensed pilot's and local aero clubs across Australia, local communities will come together to see children and their families enjoy a free fun flight in aircraft ranging from Cessnas to the huge C17 Globemaster.

As part of each FunFlight event the day will incorporate a range of fun flying activities, aircraft demonstrations and aerobatic displays.

With support from many of the nation's aviation experts including Australia's number one aerobatic performer, Pip Borrman and the 28 Squadron RAAF Balloon Corporation in Sydney, FunFlight will be a day for children, parents and carers to forget their usual worries as they take to the skies for FunFlight 2008.

Coordinated with the aid of more than a hundred volunteers and working closely with many children's charities such as the Starlight Children's Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Camp Quality and HeartKids Australia, FunFlight offers fluttering young passengers a free day of entertainment and fun.

Event founder Michèl Verheem said the success of the first Funflight event last year has spurred the continuation of FunFlight into 2008 and its expansion across Australia.

" The second annual FunFlight event, Funflight 2008 has been embraced by the aviation industry with aero clubs coming on board to lend a hand and make FunFlight 2008 a truly wonderful experience for children all over Australia.

" FunFlight typifies community, everyone pitching in and having a great day. It's about bringing everyone together, a celebration of doing something for others; but most of all, it's about the smiles on the face of the children.

" With a total of six FunFlight events taking place on November 9, our aim is to enable Australia's seriously ill and less fortunate children to enjoy a day of fun across the skies.

" With fun family activities also on offer throughout the day participants will have the opportunity to experience something truly memorable and learn about the fun of flying - something they cannot experience from a hospital bed or home care," Mr Verheem said.

Sponsored by a very generous donation from the estate of the late Paul Burgess, professional services firm KPMG, law firm Allens Arthur Robinson and Pitcher Partners, FunFlight is a not for profit organisation aimed at enabling children touched by adversity or serious illness to experience the joy of flying.
