Pilot's FAQs

  • When/Where is the next FunFlight Event?

FunFlight'08 is scheduled for Sunday, 9th November 2008. The 'where' depends upon where we can enlist the support of local organisations to run a local event. We are hoping for events in Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Naturally this depends upon local support so get to work on your local aero club or other such organisation now!

  • Who can be involved?

We welcome any licensed private or commercial pilot to register. All flights are considered to be private operations.

  • Are there any minimums?

We require a minimum total time of 300 hours plus 20 on type that you intend to fly on the day.

  • Which aircraft can I fly?

There are no restrictions on aircraft type (subject of course to performance requirements for the airfields you will be using). In the 2007 event we had aircraft ranging from 2 seat Ercoupes and Nanchangs to C172s and Warriors up to Cheiftans and even a PC12.

  • Who pays for the costs of the flight?

The cost of providing the aircraft for the day is the responsibility of the pilot. That said, in the 2007 event we had a large quantity of AVGAS donated by AirBP and Moorabbin Airport charges waived. We will be working towards similar sponsorship for the 2008 event.

  • What is the story with regards to insurances etc?

Each flight is considered a private flight. FunFlight works to bring passengers together with pilots so that they may fly together. Passengers will be provided with a disclaimer which you should collect prior to the flight however it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure that both you and your aircraft are fit for flight and that all appropriate insurances are held.

  • How do I find out who my passengers are?

FunFlight will work with our partner organisations The Starlight Foundation and CanTeen to find sick kids and their families who would like to take part. We will match your seating (and weight capacity) with the participants and put you in touch on the day.

  • What if the weather is no good?

Naturally safety comes first. Depending upon the local event, if the weather is no good to fly then hopefully you will still be able to enjoy the day with the participants with ground based and static entertainment.

  • What am I waiting for?
